About the guest speaker:
Thomas Mitchell, LPC-S, NCC, serves as the Executive Director of the Children’s Advocacy Center - Hope House in Covington. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Psychological Counseling from Nicholls State University. Thomas began his career in the Children’s Advocacy Center movement at the Carl Perkins Centers, where he served as a Clinical Therapist and later became the Director of Clinical Services, overseeing trauma therapy across 16 Children’s Advocacy Centers in West Tennessee. In 2017, he relocated to the Northshore to lead CAC Hope House as Executive Director. Thomas holds board certification in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and is certified in Trust-Based Relational Interventions® as both a Practitioner and Trainer.
Thomas serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for Our Lady of the Angels Hospital. Over the past four years, he has also served on the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement’s Victim Services Advisory Board. He is a former board president of both the Louisiana Alliance of Children’s Advocacy Centers and the Exchange Club of West St. Tammany. An annual guest lecturer at Nicholls State University, Thomas provides advanced training on the neurological impact of complex developmental trauma, and his work has been featured in APSAC’s Advanced Learning Series in Brooklyn, NY. He is a member of the Louisiana Counseling Association and the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, with research interests that include normative conformity, complex developmental trauma, and the neurological effects of trauma. Thomas resides in Mandeville with his wife, Sayuri, and their three children: Zoe, Emma, and Owen.
